Building the Studio SISU Wall…

When we bought our house in July of 2020, I knew immediately I wanted this specific space in my house to be my studio. I had no idea we would transform it into the beautiful space it is today. I’ll share the full transformation of the studio in another post, soon :)

For now, let’s talk about building a modern board and batten wall. First things first, what in the world do you need to build one?

Once you have all your materials, measure your frame pieces first. These will frame the wall and ensure you get the appropriate measurements for the other boards. TBH, I wasn’t super convinced on the frame initially, but I am super happy we framed it out as it gave an overall more cohesive look.

Once you’ve framed the perimeter, determine your primary pieces (longest boards). Once you’re happy with the placement, grab your stud finder and nail gun. Nail that sucker to the wall and move onto your next piece.

TIP: determine how far apart you want each board and use your measuring tap to determine where your boards will go. I planned out all my boards on the wall by outlining where I wanted each board with a pencil. This was SUPER helpful.

Measure, cut and nail until your wall is completely framed. Once everything is framed, caulk all the seams and nail holes. This will give you a beautifully seamless look. Allow the caulk to dry then you are ready to paint the wall and boards. And just like that, you have a modern curated board and batten.
